Isadora Halloween Project

We recently presented our progress with the Isadora project... It is not as far along as we had hoped but we did make some headway and had something to show at least...

Keeping to our afore mentioned plot we have made a video clip of a creepy hotel corridor leading to a landing where there are 2 doors. The question is, which one should you take? Behind one is horde of ravenous zombies ready to eat your brain, and behind the other is a mysterious key... Which will it be?

Door A OR Door B...

Ok, ok, I'll tell you, Door A leads you to a room of brain eating zombies. GAME OVER. If you chose door A you would be taken back to the start (and hopefully next time you will choose Door B)

Door B holds the mysterious key! You can click on this key to save it for later and move on to the next part...

... Which is unfinished. This is the part where we would like to give you some more choices to make, like wether you should use your new key to find and save your friend or should you just try and find a way out now, while you still can?

This Isadora project... and story, is to be continued....

Creative Media Practice: Planning That Final Piece

So, thinking of my final CMP piece, it needs to include one or more of the things we have learned in class, we then need to have do a presentation about our work. I loved doing triptychs, thought they were really fun and look great onscreen, so maybe I could do one of those? I could get really creative and combine that with youtube annotations or QR codes!

I dont want to do anything on Isadora because no one can see it and I want to be able to showcase my work, so thats ruled out, but I have really enjoyed everything else we have done in class so I've got a few options and I can combine more than one if I feel like it needs something more...

So what about the theme or story that I'm telling? Who knows, I think it might be fun to do an aquarium , or base it on sharks? Or maybe something to do with space?

Isadora Planning

Here are some screen shots of the Prezi the group made to refer back to in our planning.

Triptych- Love Triangle

This is a fun little Triptych Stop Motion Animation that myself, Stevie Lennon and Amy Palin-Tune created to experiment with the effects of using more than one window in a video, how it can help augment a story and add greater drama and tension as well as just making the film a little more interesting and exciting to watch.

I plan on using a triptych in my final piece, I think they look very good on screen, I like the way that you can tell more than one story at  once, or one story in multiple ways. Stop motion animation however I dont plan on using in my final piece, I have done stop motion in a few of my previous pieces and would like to learn and utilise some new skills in my final project.

Isadora

Isadora... Where do I start?

I think Isadora is possibly the most simple yet complicated piece of software I have ever come across! The things you can do are phenomenal  but it was a programme that I just couldn't get my head around!

You can make lights interact with sound and movement, or sound start depending on where you stand to trigger it or make something entirely screen based, so many things you can do, your imagination is the limit... But its just so COMPLICATED!

After following instructions to set up a stage, and add a projector that links to a video clip I started to get a little lost but after a few hours of messing around at home with the free version that doesn't let you save your work I started to get the hang of it.

The brief for this project was to create an Isadora project that someone can access from a computer based on the theme of the season, halloween. My group and I have decided to attempt to create a spooky house that the audience has to get through to rescue a friend and escape the zombies, it has almost got a game feel. At points along the way the story stops and the user has to make decisions about where to go. i.e. up the stars or down the hall. At one point the player will gain a key that they will later 'use' to open the door to rescue their friend, hopefully the two characters will get out of the zombie house unharmed....

Dissertation Decisions

One of the biggest questions this year is what I will choose to do my dissertation on?
Answer: I have NO idea.

There are a few things I am  interested in, and a few things that I would like to learn more about, and even more things I have no idea about but I am sure that I would love to learn about... So what  on earth am I going to pick to write about? After much consideration and research the shortlist is thus:

-Anime and Manga in Western Cinema and Culture
- Books Today and in The Future
-Quiz Shows: Evolution and Recycling

All things QR

This week we have been looking at QR Codes and how to use them to the best advantage. I have never really thought of QR codes as a serious medium but the more I think about it the more QR's I notice around the city, on packaging and in some more unlikely places.

Me and my Palin-Tune decided incorporating QR codes into a zoo environment would be a fun and informative way to let our prospective guests in on some animal knowledge and tips when walking around the zoo.

We made a Prezi to show where our QR's can be found throughout our imaginary zoo and what they say once you load them up... Check it out Our Zoo- http://prezi.com/p6zqtf0ya6jz/the-mps-zoo/

Or look through these pictures, the QR codes work, but I have added the picture or text that the QR codes link to, it'l save you time!

Next time I think it would be great to get some voice clip QRs as well as some other interesting little things these QRs can do, perhaps a link to a mobile game or a link to another website. We could also add links to video clips!
